HOW TO MAKE MINCEMEAT – Great Christmas Recipe 1


Christmas is not complete without Mince Pies and you can’t have Mince pies without Homemade Mincemeat. So delicious and so Christmas 🎄

How to make Homemade Mincemeat
Cook Time: 2-2.5 hours
Oven Temperature: 110C / 225F

Ingredients

  • 1kg / 2.2lb Mixed Fruit
  • 175g / 6oz Suet
  • 1 teaspoon of Cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons of Mixed Spice
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of Nutmeg
  • 250g / 9oz of Soft Brown Sugar
  • 2 Lemons
  • 2 Oranges
  • 3 Granny Smith Apples or 1 Big Bramley Apple
  • 4 tablespoons of Brandy or Fortified Wine

Instructions

  1. Place the Mixed fruit, sugar, suet and spices in a large bowl. Dice the apples with the skin on. Add the zest of the orange and lemons and then juice the fruit. Add everything to the bowl. Mix together well and place in a large baking tray. Cover with Aluminium Foil and pop into the preheated oven for 2-2.5 hours.
  2. Once cooked remove from the oven and add the brandy or fortified wine and stir through. Then place into sterilised mason or Kilner jar and seal. Allow the mincemeat to ‘mature’ for a while before using in you mince pies or desserts. Although it can be used straight away.
