Instructions
- Sieve the flour and salt together into a bowl. Add the butter and using your fingertips rub together to form fine breadcrumbs. Sweeten with the sugar and add the cocoa. Drop in the egg yolk. Spoon in the iced water.
Start to mix together and form into a dough. - Place onto the work counter and knead for a few minutes until you have a nice play dough consistency. Place the dough into the fridge for half an hour to chill.
- To make the frosting for the Pop Tart, sieve the powdered sugar into a bowl. Add the egg white. Use a whisk to beat together. Add the cocoa and stir through.
Cover with cling film and set aside to use later. - Remove the pastry from the fridge and place on a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough until it is about 1/8th of an inch / 2-3 mm thick.
Make a card template that is 5×3 inches / 12.5×7.5 cm. Use the template to cut out the sheets for the pop tarts. - Gently lift the base of each tart onto a prepared baking tray. Place a teaspoon of Nutella in the centre of each base. Spread out over the pastry, leaving an edge all around the outside free from Nutella.
- Preheat the oven to 140C / 275F. Use a pastry brush to apply egg wash around the bare pastry so the pop tarts become nicely sealed.
- Gently lift the top of the tart onto the base and make sure they are all lined up. Use a fork to push down and seal all the edges of the tart. Then use the fork to puncture holes across the top of the tart.
- Place in the pre heated oven for about 20 minutes. When cooked, remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
- Using a teaspoon, spoon the frosting over the cool pop tarts and decorate with sprinkles. Allow the frosting to set completely.
- Pop your pop tarts into the toaster to heat and toast.Be careful they will be super hot when they come out of the toaster but they are ready to be enjoyed. Yummy!!!!
