Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the onion in half, place in the food processor and turn on until it is finely chopped. Into the processor add the breadcrumbs, salt, oregano, garlic powder and black pepper.
Then add the ground beef and lamb and turn on the processor to allow all the flavours to mix together.
Place the mixture into a loaf tin (I used a 1kg /2lb tin) and firmly press down and smooth the top.
Place into a pre heated oven, 180C / 350F for 30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and tip the meat onto a roasting tray and place back in the oven for another 30 minutes to brown the underside of the meat.
Again remove from the oven and leave on the side to rest for 15 to 20 minutes before carving it up for the Gyros.
  3. Whilst the meat is cooling prepare a Tzatziki sauce and a onion, tomato and cucumber salsa. Shred the lettuce.
When the meat has rested thinly slice ready for the Gyro.
  4. To construct the Gyro. Take a piece of Aluminium foil and lay a hot pita bread onto it.
Add some Tzatziki and salsa. Place on some sliced meat and shredded lettuce. Top with a little more Tzatziki and the fold the pita bread over itself and wrap in the foil.
Your Gyro is now ready to eat. Yum! Yum!
  5. This recipe is ideally made in a food processor. It can be made without but you will have to chop everything really small and combine it all well.
