Sunset @ Puerto Escondido

Sunset @ Puerto Escondido

I posted this photo on my Facebook page and one of my followers sent me this message….

“ yeah, I believe it looked great, that’s something I always want to see, but since I’ve always been blind and its not possible to do anything about it I basically have to trust whats written about it”

So below is my reply to Roger in the hope that he could maybe ‘see’ what we see………

Then I shall write the scene Roger as best I can. I’m stood on the Beach though you can’t see me, looking over the Mexican Ocean. A small amount of fine, wet sand is under foot, like soft brown sugar, the sand is warm, not cool, the water too. Which is odd for an ocean but the days have been long and hot that even the sea has yielded to the warmth.

Just ahead the small waves are breaking and frothing as they meet the sand, the foam is loose, like the milk on a poorly prepared cappuccino. several foot prints lead to the water and feather out at the foaming ocean, just a few more feet into the water stands a fisherman up to his knees in bubbling, milky, white water which pushes against his thighs, his body and left arm is reaching up following the same line as his fishing rod, though the picture is just one frame you can see the motion, he has just cast out the fishing line, and is kind of urging the hook and line to fly as far out as it can. The Man is Dressed in dark light weight trousers and similarly short sleeved shirt, on his head is a Woven wide brimmed hat. He has no concern for the fact his trousers are soaked in salt water.

I don’t know how to explain the colours to you Roger so I will do my best. The Mans body is framed by the Ocean, the waters are not calm but not aggressive, there are points of dark and light all over them, it’s very beautiful and is made even more so by the Setting Sun. So to use another food analogy, like the surface of a giant Lemon meringue pie, it’s tips getting smaller as they fade into the distance, now I’m getting food silly LOL.

About two thirds of the way up the photo and some distance above the fisherman’s head is the horizon. The Sun is setting, in fact it is just seeming to touch the water. It’s not the bright sun that burns the face, the low angle to the earth has caused the sun’s fire to weaken and at the same time it’s changed from the Bright White, which none of us can look at directly Roger, not even the seeing, to one we can stare straight at with out any fear. It’s like a small button sized pin hole in the sky. It’s still clearly the source of all the light but the light is now magical, excuse my use of colours but it is lighting the sky with merging pinks, mauves, yellows and pale blue. There are few clouds in the sky but where the light reaches them they are lit up like candle flames, so the sky is all the warm colours, like the warm tastes of Chocolate, Coffee, maybe a little mild chilli thrown in for good measure, all melting on your tongue.

And that about sums it up Roger, there might be another fisherman just off in the distance but he is barely a twig.

That was fun to write, if it was all nonsense, forgive me, if it was fun and of any help, super. As always have a great day my friend and if it works for you and you have any blind friends, share it over to them.. All the best

Steve
