Instructions

  1. Before you start to prepare your batter make sure that you place the chocolate eggs into the freezer. They need to be quite frozen so I recommend you leave them for at least an hour but longer would be better.
  2. Place the flour in a bowl. Pour in the milk. Add the baking soda and the Nutmeg. Break the egg into the bowl.
Take a whisk and mix together until thick and smooth.
If you have the time set the batter to one side for about 30 minutes to allow the flour to absorb the liquids.
Pour into a jug or narrow container so that the batter is deep enough to dip the eggs in.
  3. Pour some oil into a small saucepan and place onto the stove.
    Heat the oil to 150C / 300F.
  4. Unwrap your chocolate eggs and using tongs, dip them into the batter.
Then carefully dip them into the hot oil. Hold them with the tongs for a few seconds in the oil before you release them. This allows the batter to start cooking without them sticking to the bottom of the pan.
After 2-3 minutes the batter will be a golden brown so remove from the oil and place onto a plate covered with kitchen paper.
  5. It will depend on the size of the pan as to how many eggs you can cook at a time but don’t overcrowd the pan.
These will be extremely hot inside so be careful and allow them to cool a little before diving in.
    Enjoy!!!
