How to Make Tom Yum Soup.


Ready to start a Thai Food Series? We will be mixing up some newly filmed Recipes with those we filmed in our recent visit to Thailand.

I’m kicking it off with a classic Tom Yum Goong.

So here is the start of my promised Thai Recipes Series and what better way to begin than with a delicious Tom Yum Soup that is so rich in flavour.

How to make Tom Yum Soup
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 10 Minutes 

Ingredients

  • 16 -18 Raw Prawns
  • 1 litre Water
  • About an Inch of Galangal
  • 2 sticks of Lemon Grass
  • 3-6 Red and Green Chillies
  • 4 Shallots
  • 3 or 4 Kaffir Lime Leaves
  • 100g Oyster Mushrooms
  • A good Bunch of Coriander
  • 1 tablespoon of Fish Sauce
  • Juice of 1-2 Limes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the prawns by removing the shell but leave the head and tail on as this adds more flavour to the soup. De vein the prawns.
  2. Place the water into a saucepan and turn on the heat. Slice the Galangal and Lemon Grass and add to the water.
    Slice the chilis and add to the saucepan, seeds as well.
    Roughly chop the shallots, add to the soup.
    Tear up the lime leaves and add to the pot.
    Bring everything to the boil and simmer for 2 or 3 minutes.
    Drop in the prawns and the oyster mushrooms.
    Roughly chop the coriander and add to the pot.
  3. Gently simmer for 1-2 minutes until the prawns are cooked.
    Add the fish sauce and lime juice. Stir through.
    Taste and add more fish sauce or lime juice if required.
  4. Now serve your delicious Tom Yum Soup. Garnish with a little more coriander.  Enjoy, Yum Yum !!
