NUTELLA, PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY PLAITED BREAD

I have been playing with my food again and I think I have come up with a wonderful Nutella, Peanut Butter and Jelly twisted bread.

You know I love to make bread and this sweet treat is something that is to be enjoyed after all that kneading and proving.
You will just have to try this for yourself to appreciate how good it really tastes. Don’t forget to share any pictures you take if you do decide to make this for yourself.

Instructions

  1. Place the flour into a large mixing bowl. Add the yeast, salt (make sure to keep the salt and yeast separate at this stage so as not to kill the yeast) and sugar. Pour in the melted butter, warmed milk and egg yolks. Using a fork to start with start to mix all the ingredients together.
Once they are binding together use your hands to form a dough.
Tip the dough out onto the work counter and knead to form a smooth silky dough. I find it takes about 10 minutes to knead the dough to become smooth and silky.
  2. Pour a little oil into the mixing bowl and coat the dough with the oil. Cover the bowl with cling wrap and leave in a warm place for a couple of hours to allow the dough to prove and double in size.
  3. Once the dough has proved nicely, remove from the bowl and place onto a warm surface. Divide the dough into three equal pieces. Place two of the pieces to one side.
  4. Roll the piece of dough out into a sausage shape, then flour the work surface.
Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to a long oblong shape. It will take a while to tease the dough into shape.
Once you have a nice oblong, take the Nutella and spread it liberally all over the dough, leaving about an inch all the way round the edge.
Now brush the edges of the dough with a little milk as this will help it to stick together. Starting from the long edge of the dough, roll it up into a long sausage making sure to seal the edge tightly at the end. Line a baking sheet with some baking paper and lift the rope of dough onto the tray.
  5. You now need to repeat step 4 with the other two pieces of dough but use peanut butter in one and Jam / jelly in the other in place of the Nutella.
  6. When you have all three ropes of dough on the tray, take the ends and pinch them together tightly and then tuck them under.
Now start to plait the dough together, by bringing the right hand rope into the middle and then the left rope into the centre and then the right and so on until you reach the end of the dough ropes.
Pinch the ends together tightly and again tuck under.
  7. Take an egg and a pinch of salt and whisk together. Lightly brush the plait with the egg and then leave in a warm place for about 30 minutes to prove a little.
    Preheat the oven to 180C / 350F.
Once again using the egg brush over the loaf gently so you get a nice nut brown finish to your loaf once cooked.
  8. Place into the oven and bake for 30 – 40 minutes until a deep chestnut brown and cooked all the way through.
Remove from the oven and brush with a little sugar and water whilst still warm to get a nice sheen on the loaf.
Allow to cool a little as it will burn if eaten when really hot.
Your Nutella, peanut butter and jelly loaf is now ready to be sliced and enjoyed.
