Instructions

  1. Place your chocolate melts into a bowl then remove about 1/3rd and set them aside. Melt the remaining chocolate over a pan of simmering water. Do not let the base of the bowl touch the water. Once the chocolate has completely melted remove from the heat. Place the bowl onto a warm surface.
  2. For chocolate to be shiny when set it needs to be ‘Tempered’. To do this the temperature of your chocolate needs to be lowered from around 60C / 140F, which it is now, to about 50C / 120F.
An easy way to quickly lower the temperature is to add unmelted chocolate. So add the chocolate that you kept aside into the bowl and stir it through. The heat from the chocolate should melt the new chocolate and it will become shiny and have a lovely sheen.
Let the chocolate cool even more to make it easier to cover the molds.
  3. When the chocolate has cooled enough use a brush to paint the inside of the egg molds.
    Allow to set.
  4. Now melt the white chocolate in the same way that you melted the milk chocolate. Remember to keep 1/3rd to one side to temper it later.
When your white chocolate has melted and has been tempered you need to make sure that it has cooled to at least 40C / 104F so that it doesn’t melt the other chocolate when added to it.
Paint the white chocolate over the milk chocolate and again allow to set.
  5. Remove the set the eggs gently from the molds.
To tidy the edges of the chocolate eggs and to ‘glue’ the halves together, heat a fry pan and remove from the heat. Place each egg half in the fry pan and gently allow the untidy edges to melt away, giving you a clean edge.
Fill one half of the egg with candies or a toy and then place the other half on top as soon as you have heated the edge to clean it. The two halves should meld together to form an Easter Egg.
  6. Now your Kinder Surprise Eggs are ready to be given as a gift.                                      Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 7.13.14 PM
